Multi Procedures

Upper GI and Colonoscopy

When you are performing a multi procedure in EMS you will notice the two tabs at the bottom of the screen one for each procedure. The current procedure is the one highlighted in orange.




For the following steps in the Pathway you only have to complete the screen once as the information provided is exactly the same regardless of the procedure.

  • Referral
  • Vetting
  • Scheduling (you are only scheduling the 1 appointment, however the scheduler will automatically take into account that two procedure are being performed and allow the required number of points for the procedures.

For the following steps you will need to enter information for both procedures, to do this you switch between the two procedure by clicking the procedure tab at the bottom of the screen and filling out the information for both procedures.

Patient history, you must confirm the Risks and Special requirements for both procedures. The information does not carry over from one procedure to the other forcing you to validate it.

You will see that the validation on EMS will not allow you to continue to the next step in the pathway until all mandatory information has been provided for both procedures

Preparation (as above you must complete steps for both procedures)

Referral Reasons (as above you must complete steps for both procedures)

In Room some of the information is shared between the two procedures (Start/End time and Staff), the rest you will need to enter for each procedure.

You will notice for drugs EMS shows you the drugs that were administered for the other procedure as well:



Images
Switch procedures in the image tab to record images for the different procedures.


Findings
As you switch between the two procedures you will notice the anatomical diagrams change to reflect the current procedure. You will also notice that the abnormalities and procedures change appropriately.


When you go to the images tab you will see the images taken for that procedure and you will be able to assign them to the markers on the diagram as usual.

Same applies for the Pathology Requests, switch procedure to see the different requests.


Summary, start and end time are the same, the rest must be completed for each procedure.

Report, Report comment,Follow up and Report Sign off are the same, the rest are specific to each procedure.

Comments for Multi procedures are split, There is an area to record free text specific to the single procedure or for the entire episode.

 

Recovery, start and end time are the same, the rest are specific to each procedure.

Discharge, discharge time is the same, discharge information is specific to each procedure.
