Record Locking

To prevent two EMS users from over-writing the same data for a patient, EMS employs "record locking". Record locking is done at the Pathway step level. It is possible for two users to access the same patient record, updating at different pathway steps, but they cannot both be in the same step and make changes. The first user in that step will take precedence. Any further attempts to access will result in the users access being locked.

When you enter a step if no one else is in that step for that patient, you will automatically get the lock as indicated on screen.

You retain the lock for 60 minutes from the point you enter the step, if you do not change the data within that 60 minutes you will see the following message.

If you go to a patient step and someone else already has the lock you will see the following message.

This tells you who has the lock and how long ago they took the lock. Note you can still view the data within that step you just cannot edit it, until the lock has been released.

REVIEW THE LOCK
To see if they have released the lock, click the Refresh button. If they have released the lock (left that screen) then you will automatically get the lock when you click refresh. So your screen will change to show the lock message.

EMS should automatically remove locks after the timeout, the Locked Episodes  panel provides administrators with the ability to clear locks if for some reason they have become stuck or if you need to forcibly remove a lock so that some else can access the step.
